World Habitat Day: Discussing our Future
Habitat for Humanity is a global nonprofit housing organization operating in over 70 countries. The organization endeavors to build strength, stability, and self-reliance by fostering a world where everyone has a decent place to live. In pursuit of this goal, Habitat developed the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (SDGs), a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet, and improve the lives and prospects of all through safe and affordable housing. To spread awareness of our goals, deepen understanding, and inspire action on urban and housing issues. Habitat is holding its "World Habitat Day" on Monday, October 3.
Habitat for Humanity Japan now works with more than 3,000 young volunteers nationwide from over 40 campus chapters. Together, we address housing issues domestically and abroad. Campus Chapters provide the bulk of the volunteers for our Global Village program, which builds homes in communities in need of housing throughout South East Asia. As a result of the pandemic, the program has been on hold, limiting the students’ opportunities to broaden their perspectives. During this time, we have remained very active in Japan through our work to repair orphanages and shelters, assist the vulnerable find housing, clean and declutter homes, and hold leadership seminars for Campus Chapter members. Fortunately, builds will recommence in 2023 after a two-year hiatus.
We are excited to offer an event to introduce our student volunteers to our corporate partners; by facilitating the networking of these groups, we hope to nurture young leaders who will lead the future of Japan.
