Programs in Japan

Responding to housing needs within and outside Japan

Habitat for Humanity’s vision is a world where everyone has a decent place to live. Families help build their own homes alongside volunteers, often paying an affordable loan. With our help, Habitat homeowners achieve the strength, stability and independence they need to build a better life for themselves and their families. While Habitat does not build homes in Japan – the world’s third-largest economy – we help households with lower incomes to access housing and technical services.  Your support makes our work possible.

Responding disaster

The Asia-Pacific region is the area most affected by natural disasters. The 2011 earthquake and tsunami in Japan not only killed more than 19,000 but also affected the economy. In our response to the Kumamoto earthquake in 2016, Habitat Japan mobilized about 100 campus chapter members across Japan to support affected families through assisting the operations at the disaster volunteer center.
