On August 4th, the fourth Travelers With a Purpose (TWP) meeting of the year 2010 was held. In this hot weather, cold beer and beverage helped facilitate communication among participants.
The meeting started with the report from the Habitat Japan office on a panel discussion held on June 6th, titled 'Hiroshi Nakada & Habitat Japan: How Young People Can Help Craft the Future of Japan through Grassroots International Development' . In this discussion, Mr. Hiroshi Nakada, a former mayor of Yokohama and also one of the Young Global Leaders selected by the World Economic Forum in 2005 had said that Global Village (GV) could be applied to improve the future of Japan because it would promote the independence of volunteers (especially young volunteers) as well as those in need of a decent house. In addition to this statement, a lot of ideas were also introduced in this meeting. Among those present at the site were two students, who were among those served as panelists along with Mr. Nakada on the day of the panel discussion. Recalling the nervousness they felt during the discussion that day, the students expressed their opinions they each had delivered in the discussion.
The second report was about the bilitz build program 'Blue Sky Build' in Mongolia taken place from June 28 to July 2nd.Using photographs, we reviewed the project in which as many as 500 volunteers from around the world took part in an effort to achieve the goal. Participants were able to realize that another global village has been built in Mongolia as they looked at the process in a series of photos. They were taken from when the volunteers came to the airport from different countries to when they gave keys to homeowner families on the completion of houses (house dedication ceremony). This TWP meeting was also joined by volunteers for the 'Everest Build' in Nepal, which is scheduled to take place in October. It seemed they couldn't wait to start out: "It's good for us to get the idea of how we will spend in the project week. We look forward to visit Nepal !"
