The meeting of Travelers with a Purpose in Nov
What is TWP?
Habitat for Humanity Japan (HFHJ)'s "Travelers with a Purpose" (TWP) is an informal gathering for people (HABIBITO) to discuss and share their experiences in volunteering, travelling, and other Habitat activities.
The theme for the November meeting is "Philippines and Indonesia: The scenery we saw and the disaster that followed". During this summer, Philippines and Indonesia were struck heavily by typhoon and earthquake respectively. Two groups who participated in GV programs were WHABITAT from Waseda University CClub and SHANTI SHANTI from Aoyama Gakuin University CClub. They arrived at the areas few days before the disasters. They reported about the scenery they saw, the aids situation, and the assistance projects that followed. Even though the meeting was held on a weekday, we managed to gather over 20 people from various nationalities and professionals. Thank you very much everyone!

Ms. Nagaoka (Upper right picture) spoke nervously, "If I stay there another two days, I could have been one of the victims." Bandung on Java island of Indonesia was struck by an earthquake of 7.3 magnitudes two days right after she left for Japan on August 31. "I have to say I am relieved to be home safely, but at the same time I cannot stop thinking about what happened to the houses and schools that we built, the people and their families who live there, and what we can do now to help them."
Finally she said, "I fully realized that I cannot work half-heartedly, and I would like to utilize these experiences in the upcoming GV programs. I would also like to convey the same messages to people who will be participating in the future." She is planning to participate in GV again this upcoming spring...
