Two years since the Great East Japan earthquake and tsunami of March 11, 2011, Habitat for Humanity Japan continues to support the recovery process by addressing shifting but persisting needs in the Tohoku region of northern Japan.
The needs of survivors are various and increasing since the disaster. In 2011, emergency assistance came first: clearing debris from homes and community spaces, and distributing 'home starter kits' to families starting life in temporary shelters. People were struggling every day to live and to protect their families, and Habitat for Humanity Japan provided support to as many families in need as possible.
2012 : Growing Needs of Housing
In 2012, the demand is for better housing; improving temporary shelter environments and repairing houses in order to return home. As a housing specialist, Habitat is strategically best placed to assist families to find suitable housing solutions: home repairs, community revitalization, and improve temporary shelter living environments.

2013: Empowering Local Communities to Lead Recovery | |
In 2013, Habitat for Humanity Japan will further develop its Solar Home Recovery project. To help families restart their lives, it is important to have a secure, regular income source. Initially, Habitat will focus on supporting households where there is a family member with a disability, as they tend to have the added financial burden of medical costs. Thank you for your support! Thank you very much for your continuous support of the Rebuilding Japan program. Your sincere contribution enabled us to reach many families in need. Habitat Japan will continue to serve disaster-affected communities through house repairs, community revitalization and the new solar project, so we really appreciate Your Support and Volunteer to Help Japan Rebuild! |
