On March 25, a strong earthquake measuring 6 on the Richter scale hit the areas in and around Japan's Noto Peninsula. Habitat for Humanity Japan has sent volunteers 3 times to help the victims. We have noticed that the number of Dozo, the traditional Japanese storage made of mud and sand, were severely damaged in Wajima. Those Dono are basically the possession of individual families, however they are a precious heritage for the society as a whole. Dozo reflects the distinguished culture of Wajima.
So, we decided to help restore the Dozo with the help of a local architect. This effort is to repair Dozo, not to dismantle them. The repaired Dozo can be used for storing Wajima Nuri, traditional lacquer ware. Thus, this will hopefully contribute to the reconstruction of the community by protecting and redeveloping the culture, and activating the local industry.
We hope you can participate!
