Through our Facility Repair program, Habitat Japan helps improve welfare facilities to create decent living environments for those finding themselves for a time in shelters like children’s homes and shelters for single mothers.

SC Johnson has supported this program since 2021, and has been a longtime supporter of Yokohama Kunmouin, a home for children with disabilities, for many years. Since partnering with Habitat Japan, SC Johnson has not only offered financial support for our facility repairs at Yokohama Kunmouin, but also by volunteering directly at the home to help improve its environment.

Yokohama Kunmouin houses about 40 children ranging from elementary to high school age with disabilities. While carefully maintained, the home’s half-century old buildings were beginning to show signs of deterioration and the home began considering rebuilding its facilities as Habitat Japan began our support. To this end, Habitat Japan conducted a diagnostic survey on building deterioration with funding from SC Johnson from January to February. Based on the results of this survey, plans are moving forward on a number of necessary repairs to Yokohama Kunmouin’s facilities.

In support of necessary facility grounds maintenance, four volunteers from SC Johnson helped tend to flower beds at the home on May 24th. Through the volunteer session, flowerbeds once filled with weeds were completely transformed and filled with newly planted colorful flowers. By improving facility environments in this way, we can create a safe, decent, and cheerful environment that acts as an invaluable foundation to a good livelihood. We would like to thank SC Johnson for not only supporting our project to repair this facility, but also for their direct support in improving the facility’s environment by volunteering.
