Habitat Japan focuses on the repair of shelters and orphanages in Tokyo and Kanagawa to help vulnerable children, and single-mother families obtain decent living conditions. Habitat Japan initiates facility upgrades on behalf of orphanages and shelters in need and empowers volunteers from corporations and universities to repair the facilities and build a sense of community and connection for those in need.

Habitat Japan’s programs also initiate a housing support program in Tokyo that addresses everyday housing issues through Project HomeWorks. The program focuses on providing cleaning and decluttering support to improve poor living conditions caused by isolation, an aging population, and an increase in single-person households. Furthermore, Project HomeWorks provides move-in support for those struggling with housing searches due to age, disabilities, or economic status.

Habitat Japan is seeking a committed professional as Programs Officer to lead programs of facility repairs and Project HomeWorks. This role involves understanding domestic programs and matching them with the most appropriate support by developing the program design. This role also manages and monitors our construction projects working with contractors and beneficiary organizations.

This role provides career development and advancement opportunities for the right person and an opportunity to join a rapidly expanding committed NGO in the Greater Tokyo Area.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Self-motivated with ability to take initiative
  • Two years plus experience working in construction industry or architecture
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher
  • Elevated level of integrity with professional conduct reflecting Habitat’s values
  • Collaborative, optimistic personality with winning relationship skills to build internal and external partnerships
  • Fluency in Japanese and English
  • Oral communication skills (TOEIC 700 or more)
  • For non-native speakers of Japanese, the Japanese Language Proficiency Test N1 Certificate
  • Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, )
