Donate and Volunteer to Help Japan Rebuild!
Many affected families in Tohoku are still facing the issue whether to rebuild or repair houses. Currently in Higashimatsushima, Miyagi Prefecture, Habitat Japan supports those affected families to repair houses.
Takako Kato, is one of the house owners who received Habitat's financial support to repair her house. Her house got damaged by tsunami, followed immediately after the Great East Japan Earthquake. Together with her daughter's family and relatives, she cleaned her damaged house and hired carpenters to repair the house with her expense. However, it was not enough to complete the house repair. Takako said," It was hard time for my family and also relatives to find even a place to sleep."
During these 2 years, she tried to repair the most part of her damaged house. But just a room was left not repaired due to financial reason. What's more, there began a leak from the ceiling. Then she needed urgent repair, she happened to know about Habitat's house repair support.
House repair began this August. Takako got back her safe and secured life with full of her smile.
