On August 26, 2026, a glacier collapse near the Tibetan border in northern Nepal triggered massive flash floods and landslides. According to the Nepalese government, as of August 31, 903 people have died and 4,247 are missing. In addition, more than 42 km of paved roads, 80 bridges passable by vehicles, and 40 suspension bridges connecting remote villages to markets and main roads have been washed away, making it difficult to transport relief supplies. It is estimated that more than 10,000 people are in need of emergency shelter assistance as a result of this disaster.

Habitat Nepal mobilized an emergency response team within 24 hours of the disaster and began relief activities in the affected areas. The organization is currently distributing emergency shelter kits while assessing damage and identifying urgent needs. Looking ahead, Habitat Nepal plans to provide emergency shelter kits to 1,000 households and support 1,000 affected families with longer-term housing solutions - helping 300 households construct temporary homes and providing cash assistance to 700 households for home repairs or safe rental accommodation.
