On April 19, 11 employees from FedEx took part in volunteer activities at “Kodomo no Sono,” a children’s home located in Chigasaki City, Kanagawa Prefecture.
The volunteers supported the third phase of the ongoing “Playground Project” on the hill behind Kodomo no Sono, known as “Forest Terrace.” During the activity, they painted the newly installed “Log Steps” playground equipment in four colors inspired by the surrounding forest and spread wood chips around the play area. They also planted flower seeds in the beds near the “Forest Stage,” which had been created during the project’s second phase.
Reflecting on the experience, participants shared comments such as, “I painted while imagining the children playing on the equipment,” and “It makes me happy to think about how the seeds we planted today will grow and bring joy to the children.”
The day also included opportunities for volunteers to deepen their understanding of children’s homes. All volunteers watched a video introducing the daily lives of children at Kodomo no Sono, listened to staff members explain the social challenges the children face, and joined a tour of the facility. Many noted that “visiting the facility in person and seeing the children’s living environment was a very educational experience.”

The company Executive Manager, Mr. Kubota, who took part in the activity, commented: “I was able to gain a deeper understanding of the children who live here and why this kind of support is needed. It was a very meaningful experience, as employees who don’t usually have the opportunity to interact were able to come together and contribute.”
The “Playground Project” at Kodomo no Sono is now approaching completion, made possible by the dedication of many volunteers who care deeply about the children. We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone at FedEx for their generous support.
