On March 27th, in conjunction with International Women’s Day, eleven employees from Bloomberg participated in a volunteer activity at the mother and child living support facility “Bethany Home” in Tokyo, where they packed food for food pantry distribution.
The mother and child living support facility provides support for single-mother households facing various challenges, helping them get their physical and mental health and daily lives back on track while living with their children and working toward self-sufficiency.
The facility provides monthly food distributions to single-parent households who have left the facility and to single-parent families in the community who are experiencing financial difficulties because of the rising cost of living.
The number of food packages for March was set for 90 households, compared to the usual 45. Some staff members were concerned about whether they will be able to complete the packing for all 90.
However, thanks to the speed and dedication of the Bloomberg volunteers in packing food and daily necessities and measuring rice, we were able to extend our support to a larger number of households.
After the packing, the volunteers participated in a facility tour. “Seeing the living spaces where mothers and children actually live helped me gain a deeper understanding of the facility”, “Packing a large amount of food into bags was a very rewarding experience" shared a few Bloomberg volunteers.
We are planning to organize regular volunteer activities to support preparations for the food pantry at “Bethany Home” on the day before distribution. We sincerely thank the Bloomberg volunteers for their continued contributions and support.
