On April 26, 25 volunteers from Carrier Japan helped plant 24 trees at Kodomo no Sono, a children’s home in Chigasaki-City, Kanagawa Prefecture.
This tree planting activity is part of Habitat Japan’s ongoing project at the same home to build a playground in the facility’s underutilized hilly backyard. Carrier has been a major and consistent supporter of this project. Breaking ground last winter together with volunteers from Carrier and other corporations the project is making steady progress.
Under the supervision of tree planting experts, volunteers worked diligently to dig holes to plant 24 tree saplings from four native varieties. Several saplings, including three maples, will require support as they grow. Taking advantage of the bamboo forest growing within the home’s grounds, volunteers harvested bamboo stalks, cutting them to size and tying them together to create support structures for the saplings. By the end of the day, volunteers had created a colorful, enriching, and sustainable environment for children to enjoy for years to come.
Habitat Japan offers its sincere thanks to Carrier for the continued support of the playground project at Kodomo no Sono and the team’s direct involvement in the project’s success.
