Working toward a world where everyone has a decent place to live, Habitat Japan works to improve the environment of welfare facilities like children’s homes by not only repairing aging facilities, but also by making improvements and additions according to the needs of shelters.
One such facility Habitat Japan supports is Kodomo no Sono in Chigasaki City, Kanagawa Prefecture, home to approximately 40 children between the ages of 3 and 18. The children’s living quarters were rebuilt eight years ago, creating a warm, bright, and open environment. Behind the home, however, lies a large and hilly plot of undeveloped land that the home had not been able to utilize, where Habitat Japan plans to build a playground for the children to use.
Construction for this ongoing project launched this winter, beginning with the first phase of constructing a camp site, complete with two brick pizza ovens. The site also serves as an evacuation shelter in the event of disaster.
After completing site development work, volunteers from Carrier Japan Corporation, part of Carrier Global Corporation (NYSE: CARR), divided into teams to lay bricks and pave a nearby area, and drive stakes around the site where a symbolic tree commemorating the project will be planted.
We would like to express our sincerest gratitude to Carrier and all of our sponsors who helped contribute to the launch of this project to create a new playground space for children at Kodomo no Sono to enjoy.
The playground will continue to be constructed in a number of phases to come. In order to make this project a reality, we rely on the generous support of our corporate sponsors. If you or your company would like to get involved, please get in touch with us here.
