Medellin 3 (1).jpgHabitat for Humanity has launched an appeal to assist thousands of families affected by Typhoon Haiyan (called Yolanda in the Philippines) which caused massive damage in 41 provinces of the Philippines.
According to the Philippine National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council in its latest report as of Nov 13, over 6.9 million Filipinos (1.3 million families) have been affected. Of these, more than 580,000 (127,000 families) were displaced and served both inside and outside evacuation centers. The report added that close to 150,000 houses have been totally or partially damaged and 1,833 individuals are confirmed dead.
Habitat for Humanity's national office in the Philippines decided to assist families and help them rebuild their lives and gain access to decent shelters by distributing 80,000 clean-up kits and shelter repair kits in total. Furthermore, Habitat will construct 10,000 core houses as a part of the rehabilitation intervention that will empower the affected families towards the improvement of their living conditions.
The distribution of clean-up kits and shelter repair kits has just begun. Habitat for Humanity Japan is also appealing for funds for its disaster response efforts to help them rebuild their lives. Your generous support would be highly appreciated.
