On October 17th at Kibe Hall of Sophia University (Yotsuya, Tokyo), we had an advance meeting for Jimmy & Rosallyn Carter Work Project 09 (JRCWP09).
Less than 1 month is left until the JRCWP09 starting from 15th of November. Many JRCWP volunteers must have mounting feeling as well as nerves about building houses and/or having commucation with foreigners which they are not used to.
The object of the meeting was not only to deepen the volunteers' understanding about Habitat for Humanity and the friendship between them, but also to ease their nerves by sharing their questions and concerns about participating the project.
The meeting turned out to be a lively one thanks to the volunteers who applied to Habitat Japan and also the ones from the Dow Chemical Company. In the first part, we had quizzes about Habitat and the participants answerd in teams, while they developed their understanding about Habitat and with each other. In the latter part, the volunteers learned about the history and features of the JRCWP and shared their anxiety, questions and their experiences.
Some of the volunteers commented for example, "It was good to understand about Habitat since I didn't know about the organization so much," and "Honestly, it was relieving to get to know each other."
3 weeks to go until the Project. What kind of houses, relationships, and experiences we build in Thailand...? Volunteers' expectation and excitement must be getting bigger and bigger.
