Over two months have passed since the devastating floods struck northern Nepal in August 2026.

Habitat for Humanity Nepal began its response immediately after the major floods on August 26. During Phase 1 of the emergency response, 513 households received Emergency Shelter Kits. Now in Phase 2, Habitat Nepal is supporting 300 families with transitional shelters, providing home repair and rental assistance to 700 households, and clearing debris in affected areas. In Devighat, Nuwakot, approximately 2,500 tons of debris have been cleared.

Furthermore, on October 11, a landslide struck Gorkha District in central Nepal, causing significant damage to homes, bridges, and other infrastructure. Habitat Nepal delivered 150 Emergency Shelter Kits to families affected in Aarughat and Chumanuwri Rural Municipalities. The kits include essential items such as sleeping mats and tarpaulins. Habitat Nepal is also working with local municipalities and partner organizations to assess further needs.

To support these relief efforts, Habitat Japan held a fundraising appeal for families affected by the disasters in Nepal at its Charity Gala on September 30. Support is also being mobilized from Habitat organizations around the world.

Habitat Japan will continue to support affected families as they work to rebuild their lives and regain access to safe and secure housing.
