In 2013, Typhoon Haiyan (called Yolanda in the Philippines) caused massive damage in 41 provinces of the Philippines and thousands of families affected by it. It is estimated that over 1.1 million houses were damaged by the Typhoon. Habitat Japan called for donation to help the Philippines rebuild, and many people responded. We would like sincerely thank you for all your help.

Eight months have passed, but our work is not over - Habitat for Humanity is working hard to cater to the victims' need using the support that the international community gave us.

1. Shelter Repair Kits (SRKs)
SRKs include items that help victims rebuild their houses, such as plywood, lumber, nails, wire, hammer and a hand sew. Habitat Philippines target to distribute 30,000 SRKs. By the end of June 2014, 20,893 SRKs have been distributed, marking the 69% of the target. Of all the affected areas, the focus has been on Sebu Island ans Samar Island, the hardest stricken areas.

2. Core Homes
Right after the typhoon, Habitat Philippines identified potential sites to develop to build permanent shelter for the survivors of the calamity. Those shelters to be constructed adhere to the high standard of building to withstand possible disasters in the future. The target is to build 30,000 homes. There are nine Core Homes that have been completed thus far, and more than 4,000 Core Homes have secured funding and are waiting for the construction process to begin.
