On June 27, 2026, a completion ceremony was held at the “Kodomo no Sono” children’s home in Chigasaki, Kanagawa, marking the completion of the playground project in the facility’s back hill area, known as “Forest Terrace.”

Despite the approaching typhoon and the rough weather on the day, a total of 28 people - including staff members of Kodomo no Sono, board members of Habitat Japan, representatives from supporting companies, and the construction team - graciously attended the ceremony.

The project began in November 2022 following a request from Kodomo no Sono to transform its unused back hill into a natural play space for children. Habitat for Humanity Japan supported the initiative, and development proceeded in three phases from 2024 to 2026, including the creation of a campsite area, installation of a stage and flower bed, and construction of two playground structures.

A total of 277 volunteers participated throughout the project, contributing to site preparation, construction, painting, planting, and landscaping work.

At the ceremony, Director Wada of Kodomo no Sono expressed gratitude to all partners, volunteers, and contractors. Children also performed a dance to mark the occasion.

More than a playground, the “Forest Terrace” is the result of three years of collective effort and care. It is now expected to grow into a place where children can gather freely, play, learn, and thrive.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to everyone who supported this project over the past three and a half years.
