ASM, a global innovation leader empowering leading semiconductor manufacturers with advanced wafer processing equipment, is also a company that actively contributes to the communities where it operates. Since beginning its collaboration with Habitat Japan in 2023, ASM has supported Habitat’s initiatives to improve living environments around Tama City, Tokyo where its head office in Japan is located, and its employees have continuously participated as volunteers. This autumn, a total of 26 employees joined activities to enhance living conditions at two welfare facilities.

In late September, 14 volunteers from ASM took part in cleaning activities at a shelter for single mother families in Kanagawa Prefecture. As part of the living environment improvement efforts, they carefully removed dust from windows, screens, and doors in shared spaces that are difficult to clean during routine maintenance, helping to create a clean and comfortable atmosphere. In addition, they supported a monthly event for children at the facility, using STEM education kits donated by ASM to conduct hands-on semiconductor assembly experience. Twelve children and six adults participated, and voices of “It was fun!” could be heard throughout, making it a valuable opportunity to nurture the children’s curiosity.

On November 15, 12 volunteers joined activities at Bott Memorial Home, a children’s Home in Machida City, Tokyo, where Habitat had recently completed construction of a craft room. Volunteers worked together to remove weeds, particularly along the fence surrounding the property, and by the end of the activity the grounds were transformed into a much tidier and healthier living environment.

This activity also provided an opportunity to see the newly completed “Craft Room Noah,” built with the cooperation of ASM and other partner companies. Facility staff member Mr. Hayashi shared that children were already working on making chairs in the craft room, prompting comments such as “We’re looking forward to seeing what comes next.” It was a moment filled with anticipation for the experiences the children will gain in this new space.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to ASM for their support of Habitat’s Facility Improvement program. Habitat Japan will continue to work with corporate partners to improve living conditions at welfare facilities.
