A New Creative Space Unveiled to Children and Supporters
On September 6, 2025, a dedication ceremony was held at the newly completed “Craft Room Noah” at the Bott Memorial Home in Machida, Tokyo. Facility staff, board members of Habitat for Humanity Japan, the construction team, representatives from supporting companies and organizations, and child representatives living in the home gathered to celebrate the occasion.
Facility Director Kazumu Miyamoto opened the ceremony with heartfelt thanks to everyone who supported the project from conception and fundraising through design and construction over the past five years. He then presented certificates of appreciation to Habitat for Humanity Japan and the construction team, acknowledging their commitment to accessible design and delivering the project within budget.
The highlight of the event came when a child representative stepped forward to speak. “I’ve loved making things ever since I was little,” the young speaker shared, eyes shining. “But with no proper workshop, I couldn’t create what I imagined. Now, in Craft Room Noah, I can work freely with wood and all kinds of materials. Thank you for giving us and future children at the home a place where our creativity can grow.”
Following the children’s remarks, Habitat for Humanity Japan Executive Director Cecilia Melin handed over the keys to the craft room. As the child representative opened the door for the first time, attendees erupted in cheers and applause, celebrating the space’s promise.
A representative of a corporate partner involved in the project shared “We’re thrilled that our company’s contributions have culminated in Craft Room Noah’s completion. We can’t wait to share this joyous news with the colleagues who volunteered alongside us.”
Craft Room Noah will serve not only the children of Bott Home but also local residents and community groups. Beyond offering a dedicated area for children’s creative activities, the room is expected to become a vibrant space for coming together and sharing culture, strengthening the community’s network of learning and support.
This milestone was made possible by the generous backing of more than fifteen corporate and organizational partners, along with numerous individual donors. We extend our deepest gratitude to all who contributed. Habitat for Humanity Japan remains committed to its mission of building homes, communities, and hope and will continue supporting the future of children and communities.
