On April 16th, Habitat Japan held its 20th anniversary charity gala, where nearly 150 guests including Mexican Ambassador to Japan Ms. Melba Pria joined us in celebrating 20 years of Habitat Japan. Festivities raised funds for ongoing Habitat Japan projects including improvements at the Bott Memorial Children’s Home and disaster relief for the Noto Peninsula.

Utana Arai, a 3rd year at Waseda University’s campus chapter gave a speech on her experience and lessons learned volunteering at both a children’s home and on an overseas build. Mr. Kazumu Miyamoto, head of the Bott Memorial Home, spoke on the role of children’s homes and the importance of fostering children’s creativity through Habitat Japan’s project to build a multi-purpose room at the Bott Home.

We are grateful for corporate and individual donations of fabulous prizes to our charity auction and raffle, of which all proceeds, together with direct donations from guests, directly support Habitat Japan’s programs. For helping us create an exciting night in celebration of 20 years of Habitat Japan, we thank koto performer Mr. Curtis Patterson, BUGAKU – Samurai Art, and the musical trio Le Chanson Atelier.

We thank the sponsors, campus chapter volunteers, and the many people who helped make this year’s gala a success. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank all our gala guests, donors, and supporters.
