【Sri Lanka-21】 Building Latrines in Progress

Donate today to support our projects in Sri Lanka!

In late October, a big cyclone hit Sri Lanka and it was the beginning of the rainy season. Sannar also had a long spell of rainy weather, and Habitat Japan's operation was interrupted to build latrines and wells there.

A sunny weather is crucial to build latrines and wells. For example, to build latrines, you must first dig holes by excavator and bury pits. Then building foundation and walls with crane, followed finally by connecting latrines and drainage pipes to pits. The whole process takes approximately 2 hours of all outside work.

25 latrines have been completed so far and Habitat Japan continues to build more latrines and also wells.

My children and I always went to the bush. This is my first own toilet and we no longer have to worry every time we go to the bush or feel discomfort. We are very grateful to Habitat staff who visit our village every day to build latrines for the families here."
