Donate<\/a> and Volunteer<\/a> to Help Japan Rebuild!
\n\"tohoku_natori_2012101314_DELTA<\/a>The Kozukahara Community Center, located at Yuriage district of Natori City, Miyagi Prefecture is where the locals often have parties and events, and the meetings to discuss the disaster recovery plans. More than 2-meter-high tsunami hit the center but it was fortunte that the center's framework was intact. The locals started minor repairs by themselves such as cleaning debris and mud, and installing new window frames but it was very difficult for them to renovate the whole facility. Electricy remained disconnected since the disaster and the restroom was also not functional. A large part of main room was also covered with plastic sheets.

\nHabitat Japan took a counsel with the municipal government of Natori this August and also discussed with the locals during this summer. On September 23, Habitat Japan started renovation and Habitat's volunteers helped gut the damaged walls and floor boards, and clear mud out under the floor boards with the locals.

\n\"tohoku_natori_2012101314_DELTA<\/a>On October 13, 23 volunteers from Habitat's global partner, Delta Air Lines<\/a>, joined the repair work of outer and inner walls. The airline's Managing Director-Japan, Masaru Morimoto also joined and he said, \"Now what is needed is no longer the emergency relief but the 'true' disaster recovery because we should do what the survivors really needed. It was very meaningful for us to join this volunteer trip and it was also fruitful to get involved in a part of this 'true' disaster recovery efforts.\"

\nA survivor who joined the work with Delta said, \"Once this community center is renovated, we can reunite here. Once we can reunite, we can encourage one another to revive our community. I believe the center has become a beacon of hope for the community in the wake of the
\ndisaster.\"
