This summer, a GV Sponsorship Program will be implemented for Campus Chapter students from Japan who are participating in Habitat\u2019s international building volunteer program, Global Village (GV).
GV is an international volunteer program in which participants engage in housing construction projects overseas for approximately 7 to 10 days. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, around 1,400 students participated every year.
In recent years, the weak yen has led to a decline in student participation due to financial constraints. In response, to support highly motivated students with a strong interest in social issues, Sangetsu Corporation has generously agreed to sponsor two teams, supporting a total of 24 students.
From five teams nationwide, two were selected through a two-day online selection process to travel to Vietnam this summer.
Ms. Shirono, the leader of one of the selected teams, shared the following comment:
\u201cThrough this selection process, each member had a valuable opportunity to deepen their understanding of GV. As we prepare for the trip, we will continue learning about Vietnamese culture and society through weekly meetings and strengthening our teamwork.\u201d
Ms. Sawa, the leader of the other selected team, shared their motivation for the GV program, saying:
\u201cWe are truly grateful for this opportunity. As a team, we will do our very best to make this GV experience as meaningful and valuable as possible.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ms. Ichioka from Sangetsu shared the following comment, \u201cAfter hearing about what everyone wants to do on-site and their passion for participating in the GV program, I found myself wanting to hear more about their various ideas. As our company\u2019s Purpose states, \u2018Together with all people, we collaborate to create peaceful and inspirational spaces\u201d. Although students and working professionals are in different roles, I felt a sense of reassurance knowing that we are all like-minded partners who share the same desire to provide proper housing and spaces where people can find peace.\u201d<\/p>\n

In October, Habitat plans to hold a joint report session with Sangetsu, featuring the two teams selected for this sponsorship program, along with other teams that traveled overseas this summer.<\/p>\n

We would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to Sangetsu Corporation for their generous support of this initiative, which plays an important role in fostering the growth and development of young people.<\/p>\n
