【JPN Relief-48】 Miyagi : Rehabilitating the Community Center (4)

Donate to Help Japan Rebuild!

20120718kameokacc1.jpgThe rehabilitation of the Kameoka community center in Nobiru district, Higashimatsushima city, Miyagi, has finally come to its completion.

Damaged ceiling was treated and inside walls were painted in light green paint which gives a big gathering room a fleshing feel and matches well with the Tatami. Tatami mats were placed as a final part of the rehabilitation process. And finally, thanks to the tireless effort of volunteers, the community center is fully restored.

20120718kameokacc2.jpgOn July 1st, Nobiru Festival was held at Nobiru elementary school located right next to the community center. The pre-opened center served as a resting place for the visitors. A number of people visited the community center. Among the visitors were three young students who remembered having Christmas parties and other events every year at the community center before the disaster. A girl showed a big smile and said "I remember this room and this kitchen. It looks the same, but even better!"

The official opening ceremony will be held on July 22nd, and then the local residents will be able to have gatherings and holiday events for children again, we hope that the center will be a help for the local residents to revive their community.
